Tickled Pink Stamps - Sneak Peak #2 + gorgeous Charlotte

Happy Monday everyone!! Today I have two things to show you - the first is another Tickled Pink Stamps SNEAK PEAK!! Thats right, I have a gorgeous little image just here....and it will be available in rubber for you very very soon.... watch this space!

I also wanted to show you this little Kraftin Kimmie cutie pie called Charlotte - also from Tickled Pink Stamps - as soon as I saw her, I just HAD to have her. Isn't her hair gorgeous? She has the cutest expression on her face and look at those poor dolls! The sentiment is also Kraftin Kimmie "Fun Phrases" from Tickled Pink Stamps. The boss lady, Kellie, challenged us to use buttons this week so I have used this fun paper from Cosmo Cricket "Material Girl" (which you will be able to purchase very soon from Kristy Young's new online store "Delicious Papercrafting" - I'll provide you a link for that in the next couple of days) and added some machine stitching to tie it all together. The little cut out doll on the bottom left corner is an assessory stamp that comes as a BONUS with this lovely Charlotte stamp. So if you have fallen in love with Charlotte and want to buy her, head over to Tickled Pink Stamps NOW!

A little close up of the image which is coloured in Copic markers:
E21, E000, E00, R20, E57, E55, E53, R29, R27, R24, R22, E34, YG23, Y21, Y38 and YR15

And the inside of my card, also decorated with those gorgeous Cosmo Cricket papers and stamped with a little button image which is a retired SU! set called Buttons and Spools

Mad 4 Markers - TUTORIAL: Tip to Tip Blending

Happy Friday everyone! Today is my day for a DT post for Mad for Markers. I have a more complete tutorial on Tip to Tip blending for you today.

Tip to Tip blending is used when you need to create a colour or shade when you don't have that particular colour. It is a good technique to learn when you are just starting out with Copics and don't have very many yet (although, let me warn you - once you have some, there is no going back, you will be addicted and will want many, many more). I just want to add that tip to tip blending will not harm your markers in any way! I promise.

Today I am going to show you how to use the technique on hair and clothing. Here is my little Magnolia Tilda image ready to be coloured. I have stamped her in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Xpress It blending card.

I am going to give her brunette hair. To do this I will use marker colours E57 and E53. Normally you would use both of these colours and also E55 as your mid tone but we will do it with just the E57 and E53.

First, I start by putting down some E57 colour (the darkest colour) in areas that would be the shadows - that would be around her face and any low points of her hair (clicking on the image will make it larger if you can't quite see the detail).

Once this is done, then I take my E53 and my E57 markers and touch their tips together. This transfers some of the darker ink onto my lighter marker. When I then put this to the cardstock, the darker colour will bleed off first, becoming lighter to the original colour. So touch your marker tip on the dark colour on your card that you have already laid down and draw it out towards where you would like the colour to be lightest. Continue to do this on all of the darker areas towards the lighter areas.

Here you can see a bit more clearly where I need to blend

If the colours don't look blended enough, go over them with the lighter marker until they fade

And here we have finished hair!

Next, her clothing. I always like to choose my papers before I chose marker colours so the clothing blends nicely with the rest of the project. For her dress and headband I have chosen B23, B21 and B60.

First I decide where the darker shadow and low points will be on her dress and lay some B23 (my darkest shade) down there first.

I have then blended this out with feather strokes with B21. This draws out the B23 colour a little more and the lighter edges of the colour blend a little more easily with the lighter colour. I have also coloured the underskirt of her dress with B23 and B21 as I had decided this part of her dress would be darker.

Next, I touch the tips of markers B21 and B60 together to transfer some darker colour (B21) to the lighter markers (B60).

Then starting at the darker part already coloured, I draw the colour towards the middle so the dark colour runs out and the lighter colour is on the more prominent areas of her dress.

I continue to do this around her dress, working from the darker areas towards where the light would lay (so, from 'seam' outwards, from top of should down, from pleats down). If you've added too much colour or want to blend a little more, you can use your 0 colourless blender on her dress where the light would hit it (down the centre).

And here she is completed! I haven't coloured the "lace" areas of her dress as I plan on adding glitter there on the finished card.

A little closer on the bottom of her dress

Copics used
Hair - E57, E53
Skin - E21, E00, E000, R20
Dress - B23, B21, B60
Flower - BG 13, BG10, B23, B21

Magnolia stamp: Lady Tilda - available for pre-order at Tickled Pink Stamps
Bazill White cardstock for card base, SU Kraft cardstock for matting, Magnolia Hoppy Easter patterned papers, Kaisercraft pearls, lace paper doily and ribbon.

Kraftin Kimmie - Clara

Welcome back! Today I have the gorgeous Clara to show you. She is a Kraftin Kimmie stamp available from Tickled Pink Stamps. She comes with the cute little bird in flight as a bonus accessory as well. Don't you just love bonuses? I have used her with a sentiment from "Fun Phrases" by Kraftin Kimmie, also available at Tickled Pink Stamps.

I used the sketch from this week's Friday Sketchers, I haven't used a sketch for a little while so it felt a little bit strange! I've also decorated the inside of the card with more DP (which is from Ruby Rock It "Vintage Beauty" if you like it, and I've used both sides of it). The red check is Magnolia from their Christmas papers, also originally from Tickled Pink Stamps.

Magnolia Down Under Challenges #42

Wow - welcome to my first card as a DT member for Magnolia Down Under Challenges!! I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful challenge and be able to inspire others as the fantastic DT has inspired me since I started participating.

Magnolia Down Under Challenges was the first challenge that I entered and was also the first card that I'd made using a Magnolia stamp. That was in September 2009 - if you really want a giggle, you can see that card by clicking HERE (please be kind, it was my first attempt!). I thought it would be apt to make my first card as a DT member using the same gorgeous little monkey that I used in that first terrible card.

The challenge this week is MASKING. To make my new and improved monkey card, I masked the Monkey stamp then stamped the vine and the tip leaves. The ground is hand done with Copic markers and the background is sponged. I've made a matching criss cross pocket for the card. It is always a little tough working out what embellishments to use on a boys card, but I went with some faux leather, antique brads, twine and a silver dragonfly. The vines hanging on the pocket are cut from card stock on my Cricut using the Zooballoo cartridge.

A little close up of my monkey coloured with Copics. I've added some Spica pen in "olive" on the leaf veins, but it just wouldn't show up in the photo - I took almost 100 to get the right pic!

Copics used are:
Monkey: E57, E53, E34 (fur); E21, E00, E000, E20 (skin)
Leaves: G16, G14, G12
Flowers: YR15, Y35, Y21
Vine/ground: E53, E31, E34
I am also entering this card into Magnolia Stamp Lovers challenge - create a scene!

16 April 2010

The Town Scrapper - Faux Leather Tutorial

Happy Wednesday! Today I have a tutorial for your which I wrote for The Town Scrapper on how to make Faux Leather. You may have seen me use it on some of my cards recently. It is super easy to make and well, after I discovered it I became addicted!

1) You will need:
· Card stock in chosen colour (I’ve done a few colours so you can see the result)
· Co-ordinating inks (I will list what colours I used for each colour card stock)
· Cuttlebug and Cuttlebug embossing folder in “Tiny Mosaic”
· Versamark ink
· Clear embossing powder
· Tidy Tray or folded piece of paper for catching powder
· Heat tool
· Old metal biscuit tray

2) Using your chosen piece of card stock, dry emboss using the Cuttlebug embossing folder Tiny Mosaic.

3) On a scrap piece of paper, place your dry embossed card stock face side up. Using a dye ink pad run the surface of the ink pad directly over the card stock. Don’t press too hard as you only want the embossed raised surface to catch most of the colour. I have used the following ink colours:
· Kraft card stock – sand, caramel
· Green card stock – sand, green
· Rust card stock – sand, caramel, chocolate
· Chocolate card stock – chocolate, burgundy
· White card stock – silver pigment ink

4) Once the coloured inks have dried, using a clean scrap of paper underneath your card stock so you don’t get coloured ink on your Versamark ink pad, dab the Versamark ink directly over the entire piece of embossed and inked card stock, ensuring the surface is covered in the Versamark.

5) While the Versamark is still wet, place your card stock in a Tidy Tray and sprinkle clear embossing powder over the entire piece of card stock. Shake off the excess. If you don’t have a Tidy tray, use a piece of scrap paper folded in half to make it easier to return the left over embossing powder to its original container.

6) Place your card stock on the metal tray and heat up your heat tool. Apply the heat directly over the card stock and melt the embossing powder so it goes glossy ensuring that the powder is melted entirely but don’t scorch your card stock!

Example:
